Bomo Alive

Together with SHAA, Shoalhaven Health and Arts, BOMO ALIVE grew out of a desire to reinvigorate a town that some see as having a difficult history - literally the end of the railway and the location of the first Aboriginal Children’s Home in NSW established in 1908.

But Bomaderry is also a site of industry (Manildra factory), of camaraderie (the Waratah March) and the home of many small businesses. It’s a beautiful place - embraced by Bomaderry Creek, a small oasis of bushland of remnant rainforest, spotted gums and small hanging swamps, rich in First Nations presence and history. The town is held together by positives, by community spirit despite downturns in economic fortune.

BOMO ALIVE hopes to continue to shine a creative light on the town and its surrounds. With generous generative funding initially from Create NSW, south coast artists will have the opportunity to respond to Bomaderry, by turning their attention and artistic practices to reimagining the town and spending time with its people.

They will activate forgotten spaces and engage imaginatively with what is already in plain sight yet so often overlooked. We welcome this reinvigoration in 2023.
